Hello Lincoln Families,

If you haven't done so already please sign-up for a student-led conference. Please click on the link below. Fall Conferences will be on the half days of Thursday & Friday, October 14th & Friday15th. Parents/Guardians get the option of virtual or face-to-face. Email me if you have to do a virtual conference. Otherwise, I will plan on a face-to-face conference. Conferences will be Student-Led meaning students will need to be present for the conference. I realize not all schedules will allow for this. However, if at all possible please pick a time so your child can be present.  Thank you for your consideration. Have a fantastic week!

This week's academic focus

Reading: The reading strategy focus this week is the retelling Who-What strategy. Students will practice reading text and write a who-what statement to retell a page or short chapter. We will also practice strategies to explain new words. These strategies are intended to be added to their "reading tool kit". It's possible to use more than one at a time.

Writing: We are working on sentence structure and starting lessons on how to write personal narratives.

Math:  We have begun our new math program, called Illustrative Mathematics. (Here is the link if you are interested in looking at the program). There is a parent section as well. Like I mentioned at BTSN, this program is new to the district.  All K-5 teachers are currently in the process of being trained. So, we will be learning it together. Below is a list of the focus areas for unit 1. 

  1. Factors and Multiples
  2. Fraction Equivalence and Comparison
  3. Extending Operations to Fractions
  4. From Hundredths to Hundred-thousands
  5. Multiplicative Comparison and Measurement
  6. Multiplying and Dividing Multi-digit Numbers
  7. Angles and Angle Measurement

Science: We will begin Sound Waves Science Unit. Here is the link for the Sound Waves Unit. 

Social Studies: We will begin the Unit on Foundational Social Studies on "Thinking Like a Historian".  We will be showing videos and talking about the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001, in social studies. All materials are appropriate for kids and will be referred back to throughout the year. Here are all the units for SS. We will begin with Unit 1.


Positivity Project focus this week is Open-Mindedness 




Important Information 

We have a peanut-sensitive classroom. Below is a list of snacks and foods allowed in our classroom for everyday snacks, and holiday parties. All of these items need to be packaged and bought from a store, unopened with visible food labels. No homemade items.

In addition, please make sure that everyday snacks sent in are also quick and easy for your child to handle. For example please no yogurt, pudding, uncut fruit, or messy items for everyday snacks. This avoids spilling on our school devices, furniture, etc.  Thank you for your understanding. 

We love to celebrate birthdays! For students who would like to celebrate their birthdays in our class please bring in non-food items. For example instead of cupcakes maybe pencils.

  Dear Lincoln School 4th Grade Parents, Just a reminder: the 4th grade Musical is on January 19th, 5:30 pm at the HS auditorium    Our Program Theme is year is “We are Lincoln School,  We are America” The students can wear Patriotic colors (Red, White, and Blue) for the show.  Students will follow the signs and report to the HS Choir room no earlier than 5:15 . Please take your student's coats and belongings with you to your seat so they can leave the show right from the stage!   Families, please wait to be seated until the other performance has ended. All the elementary schools are performing on the same night but at different times.  Thank you again for all your support.   Hello Lincoln Families,    This Friday we will have our traditional 4th-grade "Read-In" to begin March Reading Month! Students can bring in snacks (see the safe snacks list below), clear drinks, a stuffed animal, blanket, pillow, and lots and lots of their favorite books! I let the students know on Friday and they are really looking forward to it!       Next week Trimester two report cards go home! Students will be taking the final unit tests in math and science, along with reading and writing assessments. Please try to have your child in school if possible so I can finish collecting the data for the reports. I also want to remind you that if your child receives a 1 or 2 in any area, practice for those goals will continue in the classroom and in some cases at home.
