Hello Lincoln Families,
Thank you to everyone who has signed up for a Fall Conference! Fall Conferences will be on the half days of Thursday & Friday, October 14th & Friday15th. Parents/Guardians get the option of virtual or face-to-face. Email me if you have to do a virtual conference. Otherwise, I will plan on a face-to-face conference. I noticed some of you were able to let me know on the sign-up sheet. Great idea! Thank you:) Just a reminder that conferences will be student-led meaning students will need to be present for the conference. I realize not all schedules will allow for this. Thank you for your consideration.

This week's academic focus
Reading: I have assessed all students in reading. Using the data from the Fountas & Pinnell Reading assessments, NWEA, and conferring conferences, I am working on what reading strategies each student needs individually and for small groups. These strategies are intended to be added to their "reading tool kit". Currently, I'm reading Towers Falling, by Jewell Parker Rhoades as an interactive read-aloud. We will focus on inferring and supporting using evidence from the text, skipping the word then come back, read the text as the author would, and using dictionaries, dic.com. It's possible to use more than one reading strategy at a time. These strategies cover comprehension, accuracy, fluency, and expanding vocabulary. Students will be presenting their reading goals at conferences.
Writing: We are working on sentence structure and starting lessons on how to write personal narratives.
Math: We will review with practice problems on Monday and take the unit 1 test on Tuesday. We will begin unit 2 in the latter part of the week. Illustrative Mathematics. (Here is the link if you are interested in looking at the program). There is a parent section as well. Like I mentioned at BTSN, this program is new to the district. All K-5 teachers are currently in the process of being trained. So, we will be learning it together. Below is a list of the focus areas for unit 1.
- Factors and Multiples
- Fraction Equivalence and Comparison
- Extending Operations to Fractions
- From Hundredths to Hundred-thousands
- Multiplicative Comparison and Measurement
- Multiplying and Dividing Multi-digit Numbers
- Angles and Angle Measurement
Science: We will begin Sound Waves Science Unit. Here is the link for the Sound Waves Unit.
Social Studies: We will begin the Unit on Foundational Social Studies on "Thinking Like a Historian, Geographer, Political Scientist, and Economist". We will be showing videos and talking about the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001, in social studies. All materials are appropriate for kids and will be referred back to throughout the year. Here are all the units for SS. We will begin with Unit 1.
Positivity Project focus this week is "Being Present"
