Hello Lincoln Families,
We had 100% attendance at the student-led conferences! I was so proud of all of our student's presentations. This type of goal-setting conference takes a considerable amount of preparation. Coming up with goals in academic and behavioral areas for most students, at this age, is a first-time experience. We took a great deal of class time to brainstorm and reflect on appropriate goals for each student. In addition to writing out the goals students had to present them to an audience of adults. Again, for many students, this was a first-time experience. This type of goal-setting student-led conference holds students, (teachers, and parents) accountable and allows them to take ownership of what they are currently able to do and what areas still need to be worked on at home and in the classroom. Student academic/behavior goals will be updated as often as needed throughout the year. Thank you for your continued support as we continue on this journey together!
Our Class Clips touched the floor!! As a result, our students earned a class celebration! They would like to have a "Read-In". This means on November 12th students can bring in the following: clear drink, snack, stuffed animal, pillow, and lots and lots of books! If they want they can also wear pajamas.
Thank you for all the wonderful goodies that everyone sent in for our Halloween party! Our 4th graders enjoyed a relaxing afternoon with amazing snacks and a movie. They also really enjoyed the bingo game and creating Halloween-themed drawings in Art-Hub.

This week's academic focus
Reading: We will continue meeting weekly in small groups and individual reading meetings will begin this week. These strategies are intended to be added to their "reading tool kit". Using Jewell Parker Rhoades Falling Towers as an interactive read-aloud, we will focus on asking questions while reading. The mini-lesson focus this week will be to analyze character traits in a text and extend into a written paragraph and summary about the main character. It's possible to use more than one reading strategy at a time. These strategies cover comprehension, accuracy, fluency, and expanding vocabulary. Students will be presenting their reading goals at conferences.
Writing: We are working on adding details and writing "thought shots" to writing, as well as how to develop a paragraph for personal narrative writing. This week's focus will be adding transition words into the details of their story.
Math: In Unit 2 this week focus is on fractions on a number line and relating fractions to find equivalence and comparing fractions.
Here is a link to families for Unit 2: Fraction Equivalence and Comparison
Illustrative Mathematics. (Here is the link if you are interested in looking at the program).
Science: We will do the lesson on Sound and Vibrations and explore answers to the question. Students took the Unit test this week.
Here is the link for the Sound Waves Unit.
Social Studies: The focus of the next two weeks will be to explore questions economists and political scientists ask along with understanding the vocabulary that they use. Here are all the units for SS. We will begin with Unit 1.
Positivity Project focus this week is Perspective.
