Hello Lincoln Families,
I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend! We had a fabulous celebration of reading some of our favorite books at our Read-In Friday! Students got to snuggle up with good books in their pajamas, stuffed animals, blankets and some of their favorite snacks. They also got to listen to Mr. Hubble read, Piggie Pie, as well as listen to varisity football players read before the big game. Go Bears! It was so much fun!
This is the last week of our trimester. Report cards will go home next week. Attendance is even more important this last week as I do some final assessing before reports go home. Thank you for getting your child to school on time and making appointments at the end of the day. Being in school has been very beneficial for students to make even more progress on their individual learning goals! Have a fantastic week!

This Week's Academic Focus
Reading: Students all have a new individual reading goal that has been recorded in their "reader's notebooks". We will continue meeting weekly in small groups and individual reading conferences. These strategies are intended to be added to their "reading tool kit". I will be using, Because of Winn Dixie by Kate DiCamillo for an interactive read-aloud, we will focus on asking questions while reading. The mini-lesson focus will continue to include doing "close readings" of the fiction text and analyzing characters' inner thoughts, dialogue, and actions. It's possible to use more than one reading strategy at a time. These strategies cover comprehension, accuracy, fluency, and expanding vocabulary.
Writing: Students will continue developing their personal narrative five-paragraph essays. The writing process takes time to develop especially working with students individually. Each week, using a specific mini-lesson, I encourage students to focus on one thing to develop. Once that is achieved, they move on to another focus. Because of this long process, grades on the report card may reflect this. It may take all year to get these young writers to achieve mastery of "writing to task" simply because of time and the many goals that are attached to writing to the task i.e. sentence structure, figurative language, writing process. Thank you for your understanding.
Math: We continue to focus on fractions on a number line and relating fractions to find equivalence and comparing fractions. In addition, Students are learning strategies to find equivalence and comparisons.
