Hello Lincoln Families,
Our class has been doing a fantastic job reading at home and school! This includes recording on the green comprehension/reading rate bookmarker. Remember, this reading log is not to clutter our lives with more unnecessary paper. The intention is for students to reflect on their reading plans along with recording pages read to monitor reading rates. Here are some things young readers should consider: Reading Log Reflection. In addition, if your child reads at home, you no longer need to sign the planner instead mark your initials in the box on the bookmark. If it gets signed your child will continue to get yards towards a touchdown. The comprehension/reading rate bookmarker will be kept inside the "good fit" book that comes home every night. It is the student's responsibility to bring it to you to get it signed and not expected for you to remind and manage. Each student will turn it in after the book is finished and get a new one. Thank you for supporting your child's reading plan at home. Research highly supports that when we have an at-home/school plan students are better able to meet reading goals. In addition, if your child does extra IXL Diagnostic, Lexia (if necessary), Typing Club, etc. Please sign the planner so they can earn yards!
Our annual ice skating field trip will take place on December 8th from 2:23-3:15. If you want to walk over with us, we will leave at 2:20. You can also meet us at the rink. Thanks!

This Week's Academic Focus
Reading: Students all have a new individual reading goal that has been recorded in their "reader's notebooks". We will continue meeting weekly in small groups and individual reading conferences. These strategies are intended to be added to their "reading tool kit". The whole class goal will be to focus on Main idea/details in fiction.
Writing: Free writes to include personal essays
Math: We are reviewing for the Unit 2 test sometime next week.
Here is a link to families for Unit 2: Fraction Equivalence and Comparison
Illustrative Mathematics. (Here is the link if you are interested in looking at the program).
Science: We will be on lesson 2 for this next week. Why do some volcanoes explode?
Here is the link for the Unit Birth of Rocks.
Social Studies: The focus will be Human Geography in the United States and the push & pull factors of migration to America. I will use different interactive read alouds along with this unit to give our class background knowledge for certain historical events that have taken place regarding migration. This unit preludes a big historical presentation that each 4th grader will do that will take a few months to complete. More information is to come.
Positivity Project focus this week is Other People Matter: Words & Actions.
